They self-level and do not retain brushstrokes, modifying acrylic paints in various ways with acrylic resins for enhanced adhesion and durability.

Liquitex Matte Medium Fluid Painting Medium creates a matte, non-reflective finish when mixed with acrylic colors. It can be added to any acrylic paint to increase transparency, extend color, enhance matte sheen, improve paint flow, and add flexibility and adhesion to the paint film. When mixed with Liquitex Gloss Medium & Varnish, it can produce a semi-gloss or satin medium, appearing opaque when wet and translucent when dry.

There are multiple applications for Liquitex Matte Medium Fluid Painting Medium. It can be used as an extender, mixing it with Liquitex Soft Body Artist Color to increase volume and translucency while maintaining viscosity, or with Liquitex Heavy Body Artist Color or Basics Acrylic Color to extend volume and translucency while reducing paint viscosity. As a fixative, it can be applied over artwork to reduce gloss or shine by mixing one part Matte Medium with one part distilled water and applying it with an atomizer or airbrush, being cautious of excess medium causing fogging.

Additionally, Liquitex Matte Medium Fluid Painting Medium can be used as a ground, serving as a transparent ground (size) with excellent tooth and adhesion instead of gesso, allowing the color and texture of the support to show through. For exterior murals on somewhat smooth surfaces, a coat of Matte Medium should be brushed or sprayed on before applying gesso.
